Drive in electric

Discover the characteristics and advantages of electric cars

Driving Comfort

As electric vehicles run only on batteries, they offer a quiet ride and unbeatable flexibility. The complete absence of engine vibration ensures driving comfort that drivers really appreciate.

Most electric cars do not have a gearbox and drive like cars with automatic transmission, which results in high driving comfort.

An electric engine’s torque is immediately available and facilitates starting and acceleration. In addition, this provides greater responsiveness, which promotes safety in some dangerous situations.

Driving style

Driving an electric vehicle is very similar to driving a hybrid car, namely eco-driving, which involves idling. It should be borne in mind that battery capacity is far less than a petrol or diesel fuel tank and, as a result, you have to make every effort to conserve the energy stored in the batteries. The way an electric vehicle is driven has a major influence on its range. In addition, electric vehicles don’t like high speeds (>110 km/h) because this depletes the batteries very quickly.

Purchase and maintenance cost

Because the cost of the batteries is still very high, an electric car is more expensive than any other vehicle but in terms of maintenance, it is more advantageous. The per-kilometre running cost is therefore lower than that of a conventional car.

Tax treatment

Since 1 January 2017, the Government of Luxembourg has implemented tax reform in the area of mobility by adopting an incentive-based rather than a penalty-based approach. The measures taken promoting sustainable mobility are:

  • For the consumer market: a tax deduction with a a reduced tax liability of 5000 euros for privately-owned zero-emission vehicles, 2500 euros for low emission hybrid plug-in vehicles (<50 gr / km) and 300 euros for regular bicycles and Pedelecs.
  • For the professional market: a revaluation of the flat-rate benefit in kind, which is no longer based solely on the vehicle’s investment value but also takes account of the vehicle’s CO2 emissions.

Having the effect of:

  • A slight advantage for vehicles with petrol engines over vehicles with diesel engines;
  • 100% electric vehicles, low emission hybrid plug-in vehicles and regular bicycles and 25 km/h Pedelecs are the big winners.

Cars that run on electricity do not emit CO2, NOx or particulate matter locally. However, electricity generation is only clean if it relies on renewable energy. In addition, electric mobility reduces sound pollution in the environment.

These models do not use fossil fuels. With respect to certification, electric cars qualify for Crit’Air Green anti-pollution stickers, which exempt them from traffic restrictions in major French cities.
